What I’m Reading: Beautiful Uncertainty by Mandy Hale

Beautiful Uncertainty: Singleness, Surrender, and Stepping Out On Faith takes a look at one year in the life of author Mandy Hale. It continues the story of her journey through singleness from her previous books. This book is filled with countless lessons about journeying through life with God, how to surrender to His plan and to step out in faith to experience the life God has designed for you.

So much of life is lived in the unknown.  In the beauty of knowing that God is carrying us and we don’t have to know the path in which we are headed.  Life isn’t so much about knowing where we are going, but trusting God on the journey and being able to trust that God has the plan written before us.

It doesn't make a difference where you fall in the story of anyone else's life. What's important is that you tell your own story bravely.

My Thoughts

I enjoyed Mandy’s writing style, her willingness to be personal and share with honesty the experiences she’s had in life.  While I knew this book focused on singleness (it’s in the subtitle), I wish that wasn’t a major focus of the book.  This book has so much to offer the reader, and I think that those who are not single will shy away from the truths in the book because it is written for singles, especially when the inside panel of the book talks about being for anyone who is waiting on God. While the chapters are short, and sometimes seemed a little disjointed, I could look past that easily because of all the truth that Mandy shared in each chapter. I also found the last couple of chapters to have lost their consistency with the rest of the book.  Mandy speaks about her singleness as if it defines who she is, and it becomes the lens through which she sees the rest of her life.  While giving up the dream to be married can be hard, continuing to let that rule and guide your life can be detrimental to living to the full potential and life that God has planned for you.
