Courage, Dear Heart

This world is full of things that make us weary. Now more than ever, I recognize the need to have courage. But not just any kind of courage. The kind of courage that comes only from a belief and trust in God.

Rebecca K. Reynolds recognizes that many of us are tired. That we have grown weary, lonely and restless. And her goal in her new book, Courage, Dear Heart: Letters to a Weary World, Reynolds breathes a bit of truth over the reader. She reminds us that God is the one who gives us courage, and who renews us day to day.

Giving You Courage

I appreciated that Reynolds doesn’t approach this subject from a place of having all of the answers. Instead, she comes alongside you. Reynolds invites you on a journey to see how she comes to rest in the courage of God despite the depleting stories of this world.

Through 9 letters, Reynolds shares the journey she’s been on from suffering to skepticism to disillusionment. She meets you where you are at, challenges the status quo of your thinking, and pushes you back towards the truth in scripture. Reynolds reminds us that we are yoked to God and that he eases our burdens.

In a season where my heart is weary, this book felt like I was getting a hug from a friend. This book offered hope without forcing it on me. It affirmed my questions and doubts and fears. And yet, it didn’t allow me to stay in that place. While affirming my thoughts, Reynolds also managed to challenge my thoughts and push me forward.

Whether your heart is weary or not, Courage, Dear Heart is a glimpse into the hurting heart. Reynolds put words to emotions where I couldn’t. I felt seen and known within the pages of this book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my own, honest opinion.
