As we start to transition towards the end of this series, I want to spend some time thinking about creating a legacy within your home. It is the place where everything happens. You live your life, you interact with those closest to you. Home needs to be the place where you focus your attention.
Your legacy will impact those in your house the most because they see you day in and day out. So, we have to start focusing our attention there as well.
Home isn’t always a House
As I think about this, I was reminded that home isn’t always a house. Sometimes it feels like the community within which you live. Sometimes it is more than just the four walls where you sleep. Home is more of a heart place. And by that, I mean it’s about the people that you go to when life get’s hard.
Those are the people that are watching you the closest. And when you invite them into the things that you see in your life, they will learn from you. You choose who you want to invite into the development of your legacy.
You Choose the Atmosphere
You choose how you design your home. The traditions, habits, and tone within the four walls of your house are established by you. That’s a huge part of your legacy! Without purposefully cultivating a space that is safe, comfortable and in tune with the things God is teaching you, you miss out actively sharing some of your legacy.
When you begin to think about the legacy you want to leave behind, it certainly starts with you. But after you begin to set the tone for yourself, you must set the tone for your home. Your legacy flows from the inside out. Just as you chose the legacy of your life, you also have to chose the impact you want your house to have on others.
What does the legacy of your home look like?
