One of the new fun things in our household is Sarabeth’s ability to recognize her letters and numbers *mostly* without assistance. Depending on her mood, she’s able to tell us correctly what every number and letter is. Which sparked in me the idea that perhaps Sarabeth would enjoy reading books WITH me, rather than just having me read to her. When I was younger, I had a book that had pictures throughout the text so that I could read parts of the story along with my parents. I was excited to find a Bible that did the same thing!
Read and Share Look, I’m Reading! Bible Storybook!
We sat down with our Read and Share, Look, I’m Reading! Bible Storybook! last night with Sarabeth. We read her the story of Noah, knowing how much she loves animals. She enjoyed being able to recognize the pictures within the text. And she would often push the story forward to the next picture when she thought I was talking to long. LOL.
It was sweet to see Sarabeth interacting with the Bible story in a way that made sense to her. As we read the story, we were able to see continuity across the pages, which helped Sarabeth engage more. However, I did notice when I was looking at the Bible that photos for some characters changed throughout the stories. For instance, in the story of Joseph, the pictures of what Joseph looks like changes throughout the story. This will make it a little more difficult for Sarabeth to identify the character on her own to keep the continuity of the story.
All in all, this is a win for us! I love having a Bible that Sarabeth can really engage with, even now at 2. She was so excited to sit down with a new book. And I love being able to put a Bible in her hands to start reading first.
