Today I want to consider 1 Peter 1:13-25. Peter here addresses the way that we live our lives. The charge here is for us to be holy. To live in the fear of God.
22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For,
“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.
To Obey the Truth
This is such a big charge for us. To obey truth. When we do this, we are able to show sincere love for others. Love deeply. Live from our hearts and not our heads. Show others our hearts and act more truthly from what is in our hearts.
To understand that the word of God, given to us, is the truth and that this truth lets us live love is amazing.
A Legacy of Love
I want to be known as a person who loves.
Here, Peter gives us the keys to leaving that legacy. We have to turn to the words of the Bible. Wehn we do this, we’re able to better love those around us because it comes from within. It becomes who we are without our even trying to make it a thing.
Sometimes, when we focus on love and loving others, it feels and appears forced. But when we are first filled with the gospel, love becomes easy. It becomes a thing we don’t have to think about because it’s something we just do!
