I am an UnSuperMommy

April 1, 2017 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment

Being a first-time mommy is hard. The pressures from society, family, friends and yourself can be overwhelming and cause you to fully doubt the abilities you have as a parent.  As an avid reader, I’ve got quite the collection of parenting and mommy books now. A few have been standouts. Some made me angry. Several … [Read more…]

Steadfast Love by Lauren Chandler

January 30, 2017 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment

Continuing my reading journey toward understanding how to lean into God in the face of mom’s diagnosis lead me to read Steadfast Love by Lauren Chandler.  Having spent some time at The Village Church where Lauren’s husband, Matt, is the lead pastor, I knew a little bit of the Chandler’s story.  Matt was diagnosed with … [Read more…]

God Made You Nose to Toes by Leslie Parrott

January 19, 2017 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment

One of Sarabeth’s favorite songs to sing is Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. She clued in pretty quickly to those major body parts and most days has figured out where her eyes, ears, nose and mouth are too. We love talking about and pointing out body parts. God Made You Nose to Toes I was … [Read more…]

The Best Yes by Lysa TerKeurst

January 16, 2017 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment

I’ve mentioned before that I struggle with saying no.  I want to be able to do all things all the time.  Even as an introvert, I don’t like having to say no to the things that I feel I want to do.  But I’m learning that saying no and guarding my schedule is one of … [Read more…]

One of the Few by Jason B. Ladd

One of the Few by Jason B. Ladd

When Jason Ladd asked me to read and review his book, I was excited to learn more about how life in the Marines relates to life as a Christian. I’ve read a few fiction books with a military backdrop. This allows me to be fairly comfortable with a majority of the terminology. Unfortunately, while reading … [Read more…]

Abigail: The Belle of Bravery by Erin Weidemann

November 5, 2016 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment
Check out Bible Belles newest book, Abigail: The Belle of Bravery!

If you follow me over on Instagram at all, you probably know that I love Bible Belles.  Sarabeth and I have been reading about Hannah and Esther all summer and absolutely adore those stories.  Sarabeth searches and searches the room until she finds the books.  And then we read them over and over.  Sure, for … [Read more…]

Goodnight, Manger by Laura Stassi

I can’t believe it’s already time to start thinking about Christmas.  I’ve heard it for a few weeks now on a couple of podcasts.  It’s hard to think about Christmas before we’ve even had Thanksgiving.  Stores have turned to Christmas decorations and publishers are now starting to share their Christmas books. {This post contains affiliate … [Read more…]

Love Does by Bob Goff

September 30, 2016 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment
This past month, my book club jumped into Love Does by Bob Goff. Here's some of my thoughts!

This month, my book club jumped into Love Does by Bob Goff.  It’s an exciting feeling for me to finish another book on my To Be Read pile! I think that list currently numbers in the almost 200s. Love Does Moves Outside the Ordinary Goff wrote this book because he wants to encourage us all to move … [Read more…]

Chasing God by Angie Smith

August 11, 2016 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment
Recently, a friend and I decided to start a book club. We compared books we already owned that we want to read, and made a short list of books that we had in common that we felt would be a good place to start. We picked our top 4, and then our top 2, and then our top pick. Chasing God by Angie Smith became our top choice to start with.

Stop Chasing After God I don’t know about you, but I’ve always felt like the Christian walk has taken a lot of work.  I’ve felt the need to read the right books, journal the right amount, memorize enough scripture (which I’ve always, always failed at), and be the right Christian.  And I’ve never measured up. … [Read more…]

Beauty Begins by Chris Shook & Megan Shook Alpha

June 30, 2016 by Amy Langmaack Leave a Comment
Chris Shook and her daughter Megan Shook Alpha address all these issues in their book, Beauty Begins: Making Peace With Your Reflection. "In Beauty Begins, they explore the origins of beauty (which doesn't start with a fashion magazine) and challenge each of us to trade the pressure of perfection for God's perfect love."

Society tells us that we need to be beautiful on the outside.  That we must live up to this standard of perfection or we won’t be liked or popular or worth anyone’s time.  But what the world conveniently forgets to tell us is that when you chase this outer beauty, it consumes you.  It will … [Read more…]
