As we’re building our Christmas traditions in ways that build our family up, books will be a big part of that. I have fond memories of certain books from my childhood, and now I get to create those same kinds of memories for Sarabeth. You know how much I enjoyed Christmas Love Letters From God last Christmas. That’s one of the books I’m most excited to pull out this Advent season. Now, we’ve got another book by Glenys Nellist to add to our collection!

‘Twas the Evening of Christmas
I can still remember my 6th grade English teacher telling us that we would be memorizing ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas as our poem before Christmas break. Each week, we had to learn a new poem. Some longer, which she gave us a few weeks for. This was always a challenge for me because my memory isn’t very strong. However, the rhythm of that poem often dances through my head during the Christmas season, especially when I sit down to read the book with Sarabeth. I’m excited to introduce Sarabeth to ‘Twas the Evening of Christmas this year.
Glenys Nellist has taken the classic rhythm and story of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and given us a wonderful way to share the story of Jesus’ birth with our children. In ‘Twas the Evening of Christmas, your child is taken on a journey through scripture. Nellist brings the birth of Jesus to life in a way that will make you think you were there too. You’ll be transported to the stable, reminded of the noises of the animals and the emotions of the new parents. You step into the story of Jesus in a new way.
With sweet illustrations to help bring the story to life, I know this will be a cherished book we bring out each year at Christmas. I loved the nods in several of the paragraphs back towards the classic poem we all know. Nellist has a way of sharing the story of Jesus seamlessly. She shares all the facts in place, and at the same time engages the imagination.
